Baltimore Ravens
About the Baltimore Ravens
Named after the poem by Edgar Allan Poe, the Baltimore Ravens are a football team in the AFC’s North Division. Founded as an expansion team in 1996, the Ravens have experienced great success for a team that has been in existence for such a short amount of time. One year after Brian Billick took over as head coach in 1999, the Ravens won the Super Bowl. This makes them one of four teams to win in their only Super Bowl appearance. Even before winning the Super Bowl, 2000 had been an excellent season for the Ravens, especially on defense. They set a new NFL record for holding opponents to the fewest points and Ray Lewis was named Defensive Player of the Year. He and defensive teammates Sam Adams and Rod Woodson all made the Pro Bowl as well. In 2006, quarterback Steve McNair led the Ravens to a franchise-best regular season record of 13-3.
