Bobby Orr

About Bobby Orr

Hall of Famer Bobby Orr is one of the most prolific and talented hockey players in NHL history. His professional career was spent mostly on the Boston Bruins, with two seasons played for the Chicago Blackhawks. Winner of a record eight consecutive Norris Trophies, Orr is perhaps the most legendary defenseman in hockey history and is credited for revolutionizing the position. He is also the only defenseman in history to have led the league in scoring and he holds the record for most points and assists in a single season by a defenseman. His many accomplishments and records are too numerous to mention, but one other significant achievement is his three consecutive Hart Trophies as the league’s MVP. Besides his countless individual achievements, Orr led the Bruins to two Stanley Cup championships and was the playoff MVP both times. By 1978, Orr had undergone so many knee surgeries that he could barely skate anymore and decided that it was time to retire. After Orr’s retirement, “Mr. Hockey” Gordie Howe said, “Losing Bobby was the greatest blow the National Hockey League has ever suffered.” Bobby Orr was considered such a legend that the NHL even waived the mandatory three-year waiting period for Hall of Fame induction, and he became the youngest player to ever enter the Hockey Hall of Fame at age 31. Orr even has his name on Canada’s Walk of Fame and his own museum dedicated to him in his hometown called the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame.
