Charles Barkley

About Charles Barkley

The basketball career of Charles Barkley is full of great achievements. In high school, he averaged 19.1 points and 17.9 rebounds per game during his senior year and led his team to the state semi-finals. He caught the attention of Sonny Smith, who was then the head coach for the men’s basketball team at Auburn University, where Barkley would play for three years. While in college, Barkley received a number of awards, including the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year award in 1984, three All-SEC selections, and an All-American Second Team selection. He eventually became a member of Auburn’s All-Century Team. In 1984, Barkley declared his eligibility for the NBA draft, and the rest is basketball history. He went on to become an NBA MVP, an 11-time All-NBA Team selection, and an 11-time NBA All-Star. He was also a 1985 All-Rookie Team selection and the 1991 NBA All-Star Game MVP. In 2006, after a career that included over 23,700 points and 12,500 rebounds, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. In 1996, Barkley was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
